Soa guy at the gun store sold me Hornady FTX which i later found out was for the 30-30 after i had loaded 50. When i went to chamber one it would not chamber and i had to apply extra force to get it in. When i ejected the unfired round to look at it i noticed it forced the bullet into the case further. I think they are at 2.79 COAL. I have in them 42 gr of TAC. Should i just reduce my load by 10% and use a COAL of 2.51 or so? I dont want to not be able to use these bullets so any advice is appreciated. Thanks

Re: First batch of 308

I wouldn't shoot this ammo until you've read the pdf jhnmdahl gave a link to.
Hornady has special recommendations for this specific bullet.
The cases need to be cut down, and the loadings are adjusted accordingly.

Jamming may cause a pressure rise that may be too much.
That ass-clown should not have recommended these for .308.

Re: First batch of 308

Thats a cheap lesson. Most guys at the gun shops are just punching a clock and talking out their ass about most of what the do, especially reloading. I always listen to what they say and take it for what its worth. If they are way off base like this guy then they should be informed that they have no idea about what they are saying.

Re: First batch of 308

I've actually been meaning to buy some of those for testing in my 30-30. With all of the bullets available for .308 win, I can't figure out why the gun store guy would pick these. Maybe he thought the box looked cool lol
