I bought an LTR in 308 and have had it to the range twice... I'm getting good accuracy with it so far, with my best 5 shot groups coming in about .7 MOA with factory loaded hornady Amax 168 grains. I shot a 10 shot group that went right at 1 MOA and it appeared to have some horizontal stringing, but it was a relatively fast group..(about 5 minutes), so that may have been from barrel heat.

I bought this gun with the full intention on customizing it and I'm wondering what the best bang for buck would be. I think I got lucky and got one with a good trigger... this one breaks just under 3lbs and is consistent. I'm swapping scopes out right now, so that's done...

as good as the rifle is shooting when I do my part, I'm wondering if any mods would even help much, or if I should just invest in ammo and shoot the piss out of the gun...The only thinkg I'm thinking is a bedding job, but not sure if this stock would benefit?

I think the best route may be to go ahead and get started on handloading...

anyone have any good

Re: first remington LTR modification questions

I got a LTR about a year and a half ago. After I done the barrel break in I found that it shoots better with less cleaning. Just say I was clean every 20 or so rounds, The first couple of shots were out (Cold Clean Bore). I would get about a 1 moa group. Went and shot a 20 round match and after the match done some more shooting without cleaning and the rifle groups went to about .5 moa at 100y vs the 1 moa groups I was getting from a clean starting point. So I cleaned the rifle when I got home. At the next firing session it was back to 1 moa groups for the first 15 or so rounds then tightened back up. I havn't cleaned the rifle bore since then. Now I'm over 800 rounds I guess and at the last match at SCSSA match I shot a .493 moa 5 shot group at 300 yards.

This is a out of the box rifle never done anything to it but shoot it as was on the day I picked it up. I have only shot a few boxes of FGMM 168 and alot of Hornady 168 match to get me some brass (800 or so) now I shot a 178 amax load with 44.5RL15 over BR2 primers does good for me from 100y to 1000y.

So I guess if I do anything to the rifle I'd like to drop the trigger weight down and would like a DM box installed and my skim bedded.
