First time out to 575 yards today with the B&C Stock and Podclaws. Easily saw my hits at that range with the help of loading up the bipod and a rear bag. Until today I had not had really ventured past 300 so I felt pretty accomplished. Didn't shoot any groups, just going for targets that I placed out there.

Had a few pumpkins left on the range so after pinging the steel a few times I thought I'd try my hand at a 7" pumpkin, kept hitting everything but the damn pumpkin, I had several shots going less than an inch to the right. Kind of disappointing in that but overall I felt really pleased with myself.

Rifle:
Remington 700 SPS-V .308
B&C Light Tactical Medalist
Bushnell 10x40
EGW 20 MOA Base
Burris XTR Rings
Harris BRM with Pod claws

using some rounds loaded up by Cowboy Bart with Sierra 168s in Hornady brass. Met with some pretty favorable results.

Here's some pics:

Re: First time out to 575 yards

it,s addicting huh.i'm just getting into long range shooting and shot 2 grounghogs this weekend ,one at 550 and one at 525 with a 243ai.it took two shots on both, one to see how far the wind drifted it and one to correct.

No crap, that's pathetic.

Re: First time out to 575 yards

ranges like that piss me off. out here we get dirt bags bringing all their crap out into the forest to shoot up and leave for someone else to pick up. it seems every time i go out in the woods to shoot, or do anything for that matter, i bring back a truck load of trash others have left behind.

+100 Pigs who leave all their garbage on the range make all shooters look bad....like we need that.

Re: First time out to 575 yards

Way to go bro, good for you!

I'm guessing that's the range near Oroville???? I've been meaning to go up there and shoot at "The Plate"

BTW guys They're only 2 ranges open to the public for free and I believe that's one of them. The one closer to my house is the fucking wild west. Very dangerous at times. (People messing with/loading guns while others are down range, getting swept by dumb-asses) Not to mention they leave shit everywhere. Don't be haten on Apache guys because these ranges get hammered by a bunch of ass-wipes that don't know shit and have never had the opportunity to shoot at a proper and safe range that has a range-master running things.

Nice work Apache, I'll have to get up there and shoot with you guys one of these days.

Re: First time out to 575 yards

They used to send out convict crews on the last Thursday of the month to clean the range up a little. I will look for you next time I am out there, I have a very similar set up.

DesertHK, good idea, I meant to have him put on those Oakleys in the foreground before he got on the trigger, must have just slipped my mind, I did remember the earplugs tho

I had a lot of people asking about what kind of rifle it was and "where to get those cool things on the bipod (aka pod claws)" So hopefully they will buy some.

Not a whole lot of precision shooters out there, I did find one guy in his 60's firing some reloads out of his .270 though, but he seemed like more of a hunter, and like most others, only shot out to 200 at most.

On a side note, this was my first outing using the Ballistic FTE app on my itouch, awesome little app that had me hitting my target first shot. Very user friendly and accurate.

This range isn't the best I will admit, they have a "cleaning crew" come out every third Thursday of the month and clean everything and dump it into a dumpster, but aside from that nobody ever picks up their targets and mostly leaves everything out there. This is a free range, with no RSO and often you get idiots that should never own a firearm, such as today when a guy walks out to set up a target on a hot line. "Guy" was easily in his 50's and should have known better, everyone yelled hold fire and he just kept on going like it was his freaking right to set it up right then. To me, its Darwin's natural selection at work.

Aside from that though, I'm from the central valley where the furthest distance range is 100 yards outdoors, and even then you have to pay out the ass for it. So to be up here in Chico with a free 575 yard range is a blessing, aside from the morons that decide to use this place or the mess.

He_Shoot_Me, sounds like a great idea anytime you want to come up let me know!

Re: First time out to 575 yards

The range we use is way worse. About a year ago someone took it upon themself to rent bulldozers and dumpsters. Did a good job geting all the cars trailers, boats, and other trash. Didnt last long. I go, do my setup, shoot my targets, and go home. Its not a legit range per say. It a designated area that BLM says we are allowed to shoot at. You get some real retards and degenerates though. Last memorable one was a guy who set up his M1A right behind us. He spent 40 minutes ponding down beer. Never fired a round, but we actually told him that there are we were going to be there a while and he should go to another spot. He got in his truck and left. I have had .45 rounds whiz over my head, shrapnel and debris from idiots shooting tannerite to close...Had a friend who came up, brought his roommates. One got out of the car smoking a joint. My other friend and I made it perfectly clear if he picks up a weapon, we will shoot him and call it self defense. Lotsa fun.

Re: First time out to 575 yards

If you guys don’t mind, I would like to join you sometime. It would be nice to shoot with some fellow CSUC students and also with someone interested in the longer ranges.

Re: First time out to 575 yards

What I said wasn't mean't to be a personal statement towards Apache. Just a general one. I can't imagine what it looks like on a windy day with that crap blowing around everywhere. I am glad to hear that a clean-up crew picks up the place but, still people shouldn't expect someone else to do it for them its just piss poor.

Re: First time out to 575 yards

It's okay I didnt take it as such.

Everyone's definitely invited and we should set a date so we can all get together. I just used up all of my ammo so it'll be another couple weeks before I have enough for a proper trip.

Re: First time out to 575 yards

Wow, look at all those targets laying around. you need to place a hull at 100,200,300,400,500 and see if you can hit them. If nothing else you will develop some serious trigger control practice!

haha, as mentioned those had a lot of people looking and going where can I get those. Gave them your site so hopefully you'll have a few people buying some product.

I'll probably be purchasing a set of large claw feet for when I'm not on concrete pretty soon.

The abundant source of targets is occasionally nice, aside from the jackasses thinking that the items your shooting are fair game.

Highlight of the day though was watching some expert marksmans trying hit a full 2 liter soda bottle at 30 yards with a hand cannon. Missed every shot. Pretty funny to just see these guys fail hard.
