So I have long owned handguns. But am looking to get into my first long gun/sniper rifle setup. I was thinking about something in .308 since it is farly affordable and even more so if i reload. I want to keep my first setup around the $2000 mark or below. I was thinking about a Savage 10 FCPK in an XLR Tactical Evolution Chassis. I figure this is a farly well equipped gun out of the box and should bea good platform to learn on.

My questions are this. I am blind in my right eye. However I am right handed. I need a way to set up the scope so that i can use it with my good eye and still grip the gun properly. Any ideas?

Also, is there something else you guys would recommend instead of this gun/chassis combo?

Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks

Have you tried to learn shooting left handed? I was taught to find my dominant eye once, left eye but right hand dominant. I pushed myself to learn to shoot left handed. Not the greatest, but I CAN shoot left handed. Just takes practice and dedication.

My suggestion would be to by a left-bolt rifle! Since it is your first rifle, it will be just as easy to learn to shoot with your left shoulder on the rifle. I know of of no option that will let you cantilever a scope over to the left side of your face and shoot with rifle on your right shoulder.

Id learn to shoot off the left shoulder in your case. Would just be the simpliest, cheapest, and easiest.

The Savage 10FCP-K is a great gun out of the box. I have it and itll shoot .5MOA and slightly better when i actually do well. So it is a shooter for sure!

Remember you will need money for a good scope too. I would get the rifle and scope first and change out the chassis when you find out what you really want/need from it. not everyone likes the same stocks

Got a friend that lost sight in his right eye and over the last year has retrained himself to shoot left handed. He is back at the top of the finishers in our rifle matches and getting better by the month. Practice,practice,practice- it can be done.
