I am looking at different scopes for my next build and wanted to get some opinions. Should I go fixed or variable power? I have never used a fixed power before so I'm trying to figure out the pros and cons of each. Thanx

Re: fixed or variable

I want it to start shooting in matches. And may be a little hunting.

p.s. The range will be out to about 700-750 cause that is the longest range that I can get where I shoot at. And for now it's probably going to go on a .223 bolt action.

Re: fixed or variable

If your going to use it for hunting you will probably want a variable power scope. If an animal pops up close range and you have say a fixed 10x scope, it is going to be difficult to locate him through the scope when you're zoomed in that far. Also, unless you are very experienced, you may want to get something more powerful than a 223 for hunting at those ranges. I hope this helped.

Thanx, the .223 will be a trainer, an up grade from my .17 hmr, the rifle that I will hunt with will be a .308 or 30-06. Sorry for not clarifying earlier.
