Gunsmithing Float clearance?

So in my project to restock my old sporterised Springfield,,,,
I'm free-floating the barrel like it was in the previous stock.

It had about 3 sheets of paper clearance but while I'm ordering the stock I need to spec the diameter of the barrel channel, I was going to measure the chamber area and add 1/16 or so. Any other wisdom on the "standard" clearance? I'm also hedging my bet that if the stock doesn't fix the flyer problem (Old one was cracked internally) I'm going to order a new barrel for it...Probably if a F-class/palma size since it will be a 6.5-06 if I re barrel. (Rock chucks will fear me)

Thanks

Re: Float clearance?

Dave,

A 1/16 should be about right. About .030 per side. That should launch chucks into outer space!!
