For anyone who has hands on experience with the folders from XLR and Mcree, are they stiff enough to stay in position when folded? AICS and Manners both have provisions to lock the stock in a folded position, while XLR and Mcree have no such provision. When not locked open, does the butt stock just flop around?

Yes.
You have to lift the entire buttstock area up before you can fold it or unfold it. It is a decent amount of pressure too.
I can't imagine any situation where it would fold/unfold without you wanting it to.
That could be a deal breaker for me. The new Element is at the top of my list, but I'd really like for it to be able to lock into a closed position as well as open.
Not quite that simple actually since the entire butt stock moves back and forth to adjust length of pull.
Just velcro the stock closed (adhesive velcro). Problem solved.
It also doubles as a handy way to attach a mouse squeaker when you're predator hunting and the stock is extended...
