hey guys, I took my 20" FN SPR .308WIN out to 1k yards with some Federal GMM's/168gr...here's my dope with 200 yard zero...it's a good start for anyone with this rifle...muzzle velocity was right around 2600fps, temp was about 75degF, elevation about 700 feet..

rifle is unmodified...has at least 600 rounds fired...holds about 0.5moa or less on average at 100yards. at 600 yards, it holds 0.5moa, as well..

Just thought I'd share some real world data for a factory baseline for anyone interested...

scope, Premier Heritage 3-15

yards/millirad adjustment for zero

100: ~-0.5-0.6mil
200: 0mil
300: 0.8mil
400: 2.1mil
500: 3.2mil
600: 4.5mil
700: 6.0mil
800: 7.8mil
900: 10.1mil
1000: 12.5-12.7mil

well, I was on target, low, at 1000....~36" circle target. I just didn't shoot "groups" at any yardage, I was just getting a ballpark on the ammo, so that I could come up on center of a target...If I actually shot 5 rounds at it, I could comment, sorry! I only had about 30 rounds of ammo left to work my way backwards to 300 yards...so once I actually hit at 1000, I quickly moved to 900 and found my new DOPE there....

I might have some more boxes of FGMM left, so I can see what it does out there one day! That bullet is jumping pretty far in the FN, before it hits the rifling. I'd have to say it's set back around .055", or so. I think tweaking the round a bit with the 168's on this rifle, it'll probably be pretty nice, even at 1000...especially considering how well it did with getting on at 900 with no difficulty...

Re: FN SPR A1A to 1k yards w/FGMM

interesting. ive only shot the 168 FGMM out to 800 and it does great there... but ive read and been told by many that once sub-sonic the rounds accuracy goes to shit. so in a 20'' barrel 900 yards is pushing it. ill have to try it for myself to see how it does.

mine 20'' SPS-T is shooting them 2550 ft/s at the muzzle and my card that has shwon pretty accurate UP adjustment out to 800 yards says 12.9 mills for 1000 yards this is with a 100 yard zero, but ive yet to confirm it.

Re: FN SPR A1A to 1k yards w/FGMM

12.9 sounds about right for your 100 yard zero...I'm about 30-50fps faster than you though, on average. I think the slowest speed I saw was about 2580fps...max about 2609.....obviously the air density is going to affect our adjustment differences a bit..

personally, for me, I just enjoy the 168's out to 600 yards... 3" groups at 600 is perfectly fine for me on this more compact rifle..and for anything else, I would say getting into the 24" rifle with the 175SMK's or the 155 Scenars has been more consistent for me at the longer distances...

maybe you can try working up a good 155 load for your 20" SPS-T...I have YET to do that on my 20 incher, but I am pretty much set on trying the 155 scenars out after getting the most out of the 168's. I think there's only so much you can do on the FGMM's....I wouldn't mind testing out that versus the handloads on 168..

Re: FN SPR A1A to 1k yards w/FGMM

yeah i dont reload so im stuck with factory loaded ammunition. i was going to try southwests 155's but they are always out of stock and i need ammo thats always available when i need it. and the 175 FGMM shoot like shit in my rifle so for now im going to stick with the 168 FGMM until something else affordable and available comes along.

Re: FN SPR A1A to 1k yards w/FGMM

Sounds like Southwest Ammo is busy with their growth and everything....I could just imagine the demand for what people are claiming are decent alternatives to handloads...

good luck to ya. update when ya can!

Re: FN SPR A1A to 1k yards w/FGMM

I agree that 175smk is ballitically superior to the 168...but I had NO trouble with the 168 at 1000 yards. Any miss was a NEAR miss. That was at about 800ft elevation on a 75 degree day.
