On an earlier thread, a poster indicated that Win. M70 had inconsistent locations for base mounting holes. Has anyone found this to be true with the SPR? I know that on some other actions the bridges may not be parallel to the bore. Has anyone experienced this with the SPR?.

If it makes a difference, the rifle is the first SPR.

    Dr. Phil,

Thats right... NEAR.. I could NOT remember the name..

While the are all Winchesters...it seems from what John at US Optics told me there are about 4 or 5 different hole patterns on the Winchester recievers....

Yea... sounds dumb... but that was my issue with a base for the Stealth...

    Matt.

If it is a first generation SPR that came in the HS Precision
stock you need to order a Winchester Model 70 Short Action
base for it. If it is a later generation FN SPR or FN PBR
then order a base labled for a FN SPR or labled for a Winchester
Short Magnum action which has a hole spacing from center to center of the inside holes of 3.515.

Call near and get one of their bases, he can tell you which one to install.

USO has a good selection but I prefer a steel to an aluminum rail and Near has the most beautifully machined and consistent products I have used.
