Can someone help me out with a height question on rings with a 50mm scope with BC caps(30mm tube)and an FN SPR? its got the factory Near 20MOA base on it.

The gun is being barreled at my smiths place right now, so i cant put the scope with action to do some measuring. I want to go with the seekins rings and they seem to be lower than most other rings.

google search of the hide here only finds one topic that references badger medium rings. any help is appreciated.

Re: FN SPR scope ring height and 50mm

while not a perfect answer medium uso rings and a 44mm objective sits pretty high. like 1/2 inch high. i would think lows would suit you well.

why are you rebarreling the FN before you even have glass for it?

Re: FN SPR scope ring height and 50mm

My uso 44mm with the sunshade on will not fit with my uso rings. With FN rings it clears the barrel by less than 1/8" a flip up cap won't fit. The FN rings appear to be the same height as uso mediums.

Re: FN SPR scope ring height and 50mm

im not rebarreling, im building. having the unbarreled action blueprinted, and barreled to my Douglas airgauged barrel. i have a scope that i wanted to use when i started to build this rifle, a 1" Leupold 40mm with Burris XTR low rings.

I have since found a deal from a hide member for a 6.5-20x 50mm Vortex Viper and so i need 30mm rings for the gun. I need to get the rings to my guy so they can ceracote them to match the action and barrel.

edit: there is a lot of discrepency between different brand rings and what they call low/medium/high.

For quick reference for 30mm rings(measurements from top of base to bottom of scope):

-USO extra low - 0.289"

-Burris XTR Low -0.25"
Seekins Low ----0.23"
USO Low --------0.389"

-Burris XTR med -0.5"
Seekins Med ----0.28"
Badger Med -----0.414"
USO Med --------0.509"

I'm also interested in this info- I'm waiting on my FN SPR and would like to order rings while I wait.

Re: FN SPR scope ring height and 50mm

My SPR is wearing a Bartlein M40, OEM NEAR base, Premier 5-25x56, butler creeks, and Farrell 1.070" tall rings. I have .100" clearance between obj cap and barrel.

Based on that, .850" tall rings should *just* clear with a 50mm obj, but that assumes the obj housing thickness is the same with the 50mm scope as it is with the 56mm. It also assumes the BC cap is the same thickness. A thinner contour barrel would of course, increase clearance.

I doubt any scope housing thickness is thicker than premier though, so I'd say .850" would be worst case (least clearance) scenario.

I think any ring package between .850 and .900 is going to get a 50mm scope, with BC cap nice and low on your SPRs with 20moa NEAR bases.

Good luck, hope this helps.

Re: FN SPR scope ring height and 50mm

I might add:

Farrell's height measurement is from top face of pic rail to scope centerline...

Re: FN SPR scope ring height and 50mm

I just mounted a Bushnell Elite Tactical 6x24x50mm on a Savage LRP (huge barrel), and used a warne 20 moa base, and burris xtr low rings. Had to do a little sanding on the butler creek cover but it fit. Its as low as I could possibly go.

Re: FN SPR scope ring height and 50mm

From Seekins website.

Height Chart Measured From Rail Top To Ring Center
Tube Diameter Low Medium Medium High High AR-High MSRP
1 inch 0.75 $109
30mm 0.82 0.87 0.92 0.97 1.45 $129
34mm 0.92 1.0 1.45 $149
35mm 0.95 $149

Having had two FN-SPR's with Badger rings pn306-20 that measure .885. Ive run a USO ergo 44mm with Butler creeks, with room to spare. The 44mm ergo has a little bigger outer diameter because of the design. Ive also run a 44mm T-pal with that hight as well with Butler creeks and gobs of room to spare. Ive also run a Premier Reticles PH 3-15 with their lense covers with the USMC 34mm 1.0 high rings with plenty of room.

I like having a little higher rings to run a stock pack. Knowing what I know now and If I were you I would get either the .92 medium high or .97 high.

Hope that helps ya,
Ren
