Thanks for any advice. I have been collecting WW2, Korea, and Vietnam memorabilia for a while. I wish to obtain an M40 either cureent or previous production run. Obtaining optics is my issue. I have been a hunter for 40 years but am new to the sniper world. I have in my safe a Leupold Vari-X 3by9 50mm as well as a Leupold 6x fixed collecting dust. Would either of these be a viable choice to mount on the rifle and if so which would u go with?? I was a deer hunter and both are mounted in Leupold rings but I do no care about deer hunting anymore-i just like shooting paper. I would LOVE to get an M40 with either the original Leopold anodized scope or a Redfield Accurange 3 by 9 as historically correct(as I read....??)
Sorry but my knowledge base is really in Garands and M1 carbines-the sniper world is new to me. I have killed deer out to 400 yards but again my interest now lies in learning a new craft. So should I just purchase the rifle and mount one of my scopes OR hold out for an M40 with the "correct scope"? I think I know the answer is obvious but wanted to bounce the idea off of folks more experienced than I. I have looked at a number of M40s from the first run and the difft optics applied by folks is amazing.... I know from experience most of the art is between your ears and finger.....but is it worth getting the tombstone system?? Thanks for any advice to a newbie and sorry for rambling like an idiot at 2 am!
