<chuckle> It always makes me chuckle when I see "science" at work, "proving" what many classic philosophers already knew; off all the things we try to control only one thing is actually controllable...our perspective on the world around us. Everything else is influenced, nudged, coerced or forced. The only thing we truly have control over (and thus influences our perception of "happiness" and contentment) is ourselves and our own minds.
Or as we used to say "back in the day"...."free yo mind, and ya ass'll follow".
Isnt that what the hippy dippy ones call Gaia. Sounds leftist to me.
Just kidding.
Thats why I studied philosophy and spiritual stuff rather than science...though science has its place. I said years ago that the heart is the seat of the soul, not the mind. Its like the mind is the hard drive but it only inputs and deals with what the programmer, the heart, puts into it. To look at it from a different perspective, you can be 'brain dead' for years and come out of it, but once the heart stops youre done very shortly.
I hold that most aberrant behavior is due to emotional issues rather than what is referred to as 'mental illness'. The mind can be ok, but if the heart is feeding it damaged info thats all it can put out. Like a bent cookie cutter can only stamp out bent cookies. Perhaps why vets and others suffering from PTSD can get so much help from having a dog, or animal therapy. YOu cannect with your dog on a basic heart/emotional level, not a reasoning logical one.
