For those with illuminated reticles, when do you use that function?

My Razor HD (1st gen) has an illuminated reticle option with various level of intensity. I have not used it while shooting as I'm typically in sunny, or slightly overcast situations.

For those with that option on their scope, when do you actually use it??

When the contrast between the target and reticle is not enough for an unlit reticle.

At daybreak or just before sunset when the light is nearly gone, but during legal shooting hours.

Up north it is dim quite early in the winter.
I use it in low light situations. The brightness must be dialed just right so it works good.

I have also noticed it helps with FFP scopes on low zoom, say 4.5-29 on the lowest setting it will clearly paint the reticle on the target.

Cool, thanks. I just wasn't sure if there was a specific benefit to use it all the time. The Razor has 11 different intensity levels, which seems like a lot, so I just wasn't sure if the intent was to use various ones all the time. May just have to play around and see if it helps in general situations.

Mainly about the last 15-20mins of shooting light. Which, the older I get, the sooner that gets. My FP points north-west, with targets right up against the trees. So, about the last couple hours of light, the target is in the shade. Lighting the reticle on 1, maybe 2, allows my 49yr old eyes to see the .03 floating dot easier. Any higher than 2, however, it flares too bright to have a precise aiming point.

I use the illumination on my SWFA 5-20x as a showoff that I have extra knobs on my scope. Other than that its pretty useless. You have to be in complete darkness to even distinguish anything off it.
