Republicans Push Back on Biden’s War on Chocolate Milk!

House Republican Conference Chair Elise Stefanik (R-NY) and other House Republicans have pushed back against a Biden administration proposal that would limit children’s access to chocolate milk and other drinks in schools across America.
The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) is considering limiting certain foods and drinks such as chocolate milk to “reduce children’s risk of chronic disease.”
The proposal would limit flavored milk such as chocolate milk to high school.
“USDA is proposing to allow flavored milk for high school children only (grades 9-12),” the USDA proposal explained. “This approach would reduce exposure to added sugars and would promote the more nutrient-dense choice of unflavored milk for young children when their tastes are being formed. The proposed regulatory text for this alternative would allow flavored milk only for high schools (grades 9-12).”
“Children in grades K-5 would again be limited to a variety of unflavored milk,” the proposal added.
The Biden administration appears to be taking a page from New York Mayor Eric Adams’ proposed ban on chocolate milk, which he backed off from after Stefanik and many others attacked the proposal. Notably, Adams follows a vegan diet and has urged Congress to allow vegetarian options in New York City schools.
Stefanik proposed a bill, the Protecting School Milk Choices Act, which would ensure schools participating in the National School Lunch Program offer at least one flavored milk option.
Now, Republican leaders have set their sights on the USDA’s move to take chocolate milk away from children.
I will always lead the fight to save chocolate milk and protect our Upstate New York and the North Country dairy farmers. When New York City Mayor Eric Adams tried to ban chocolate milk, I led the successful effort to fight back and won on behalf of families and farmers. Now, Joe Biden is embracing this Far Left radical proposal to ban chocolate milk. This is totally unacceptable, and I will do everything in my power to stop these efforts. Flavored milk is one the best ways for kids to get essential dairy nutrients for growth and development.
House Agriculture Committee Chairman Glenn Thompson (R-PA) said, “First it was your gas stove, and now it is your child’s school meal. President Biden’s proposal to ban chocolate milk is another example of brazen government overreach.”
He added, “I’m proud to stand with America’s dairy farmers against Biden’s intrusion into our school cafeterias. Chocolate milk is a calcium-rich childhood favorite, and it is here to stay!”
Rep. Virginia Foxx (R-NC), the chair of the Education and Workforce Committee, said, “The Biden administration believes that the federal government knows best in everything. As a result, we continue to see this administration impose top-down regulations that do more harm than good.
She added, “The contents of school meals are best left to local professionals and the cafeteria staff who care for America’s students every day and know what they will eat.”
Fox News reported that a 2015 study found that chocolate milk could be a great post-workout option due to its high levels of protein, carbohydrates, and calcium.

Is this serious or a joke not you but the republicans?

Not in favor of banning & they can choose what they want but Sugar is bad stuff and causing a host of the health problems such as diabetes & heart problems in this country.

If Republicans had HALF the cojones that Democrats in Congress have, silencers would be off the NFA, we would have national concealed carry, and the ATF held accountable for their crimes. During Trumps first two years in office, Repubs had a unified government and did jack shit of any consequence to conservative voters. Compare that to what the Dems have accomplished during the same period of time with Dementia Joe as President.

As I’ve said before, I despise the communists but damn they get shit done for their constituents.

All republicans have to do to be successful is…well…anything. They don’t, so they get rekt, and then send out strongly worded tweets. Absolute pussies.

Sugar isnt bad.

HFCS is bad.
Too much sugar is bad.
Processed, premade, junky food is bad.
Lazy parents who allow kids to not do anything but watch TV, game, or watch tiktok are bad.

Amen. The repubs are good at losing. Mainly because they swerve, they flinch, the fold on the bluff of the dems. Including pinche McConnell. He looks stern and rattles his saber. And then gives the dems literally everything they wanted.

We need some conservatives in government who are not afraid of being called useless names. And wear t-shirts that say, "Hey Dems! GFY!"

Trump spoke his mind and got 71 million votes in an election that was rigged against him..
Do you know why the republicants didn't do anything when they were elected and given the majority in both houses and the presidency?

When I was in school there was no chocolate milk so all the cool kids would bring quik in an empty prescription bottle and make there own. Can you imagine a kid bringing a prescription bottle to school with a brown powder in it today ......oh wait.......

If we had half the balls the Dems do we'd be having to do maintenance cycles on the guillotines .

Didn't they just get done throwing out the bullshit of Big Mike for nutrition in schools because no one would eat the crap that they were required to feed the children?

When I was in school, we had phys-ed. We beat hell out of the weaker parts of the herd, with rock hard rubber balls, hurled at 642mph.
We called it dodgeball.
The red light game... mostly during transportation to sporting events where JV and Varsity shared a bus.

Seniors in the back, freshmen up front on the bus. If a freshman could make it all the way to the back of the bus and touch the red emergency light, they were a made man. Very, very few ever touched that light.

It was like lord of the flies.

Now we have PTA meetings about pronouns.

Not as fun as an adult. Played against the kids recently and wrecked their world but sweet jesus why does it have to hurt the damn shoulders so bad afterwards.

Mmmmm, I love milk. Even the pasteurized garbage, that isn’t really milk at all. Raw milk is the shit and is an actual dairy product you could drink. It hasn’t had the lactase and other beneficial ingredients nuked out of it

Defending chocolate milk is great. However, I would prefer the republicans accidentally grow a spine for just one minute and push back on the push to take away our guns. They need to be saying "Hell no!" loudly and start calling the mass shooters crazy people, because they are.

Let’s ask this question: would you rather have chocolate milk and too much sugar in you cereal with the freedom to be your own person and make your own choices OR no sugar as mandated by the government and no freedom to be your own person and decide for yourself what you want your life to be like? That’s the real issue here. Biden has simply gone down the Bloomberg route of limiting soft drink sizes because we can’t be trusted to live our own lives as we choose. Wanna be fat? Its on you. Wanna be fit? Get to work and all those results are on you too. Live your dream, enjoy your life. You only get one.

till they are showing there evidence in a court room trying to push charges on Biden for his crimes and that will never happen , the rips are pussies other wise everything else is just noise .
they would impeach him if they had the numbers but they don't .

More distraction. How about limiting ssri’s/ritalin for young school age kids. It is very common for teachers to recommend parents put their kids on them. The Pharma scum reps train the teachers to “spot” symptoms & make recommendations. Been going on over 20 years or about same timeframe as spike in school shootings.

I remember Bob Dole & Orin Hatch having hearings about this late 90’s early 2000’s. In those hearings they had some of the training leaflets given to teachers. They literally took the diagnostic check list for a kid that needs glasses & changed it to Ritaln.

Here we are & still nothings been done.

This shit started with big hips obama.

these people are all worried about those poor little children of New York City, who are raised by “au pairs.” Those over paid, worthless full time baby sitters are too lazy to cook for the poor little rich kids and so they wind up loading up on French fries at the local Micky D’s.

Well I taught at a school where the students were remarkably unaware of the pleasures of having an “au pair” in the home. In fact, many of the students in this very rural community were pretty much fully dependent of the calories that the school breakfast and lunch programs provided. Of course big hips never paid any attention to this. All she could see were her rich bitch big city buddies and the suffering they had to endure with having to rely on a “au pair” because they obviously had no clue who those little people were that were running around their brownstone mansions.

So, my point, my kids needed the calories. You are probably aware that a meal of carrot sticks and celery sticks is exceptionally low on calories, especially when it wound up in the school lunch room trash. But these folks who mandated such meals that they are totally clueless of the problems and create many more problems in the end. (So far insulated from America they are)

To my personal credit, no child ever went hungry at my school for lack of lunch money if I was aware.

Of course republicans aren’t pussies, they are so much more, Republicans are cum guzzling, cowardly traitors, racist, fascist, unpatriotic and un-American piece of shit treasonous traitors
So- you're a vaxxed racist democrat----- a.k.a. a Nazi.

History's most infamous Fascists were all self labeled Leftists: Hitler was a Socialist. Mussolini was a Communist. The "Father of Fascism" Giovanni Gentile was a Socialist.

Feel better Mrs. Karen Marx.

I agree with the sentiment, but OP (and apparently fox news) doesn't seem to understand how the program works. The usda public school nutrition standards are only enforceable via the national school lunch program (federally assisted low cost meals for poors). They have an actual mandate to provide "healthy" meals to poor kids, so this change doesn't qualify as "stuff they shouldn't regulate". Also, the chocolate milk ban would only "have" to apply to the program itself, meaning cash lunches can still have sugar "milk" you just can't have it on the free lunch program until high school. Given the studies that children who over consume sugary foods early in life tend to have a life long addiction to sugar, I can't see how this is a bad move by usda. Unless we WANT a bunch of diabetic poors clogging up the system when they get older?

ETA: Just noticed this thread is necro from six months ago, damn necro bots.

Fair enough. And I do agree that kids should have healthy lunches. Studies have been done that demonstrate healthy eating helps with teen behavioral issues along with physical health.

Agreed. I actually wish that SNAP had a credit card like balance allotment. Instead of "available credit", and a lower "available for cash advance" limit, it should be "nutritional food" and a much lower "treats" budget. 1 pack of little debbies and 1 bag of chips per person per month, no sugary drinks, everything else should be whole foods. And I say that as someone whose parents qualified for food stamps when I was a kid.

So, with all the colossal corruption and shady shit going on - one Republicunt has lept into action, joined the fight and put their foot down. Somewhere on a level with .........

The key word is POOR. The “healthy“ lunches were “Healthy” for the wealthy New York and Los Angeles and Washington DC kids whose “au pairs” were too DAMNED Lazy to cook them something decent and let them feast to their little eyes bugged out on McDonald’s French Fries and ice cream.

Poor is poor, not poor diet. Kids need calories. School is a hard day for those who are really trying.
