Do you prime on the press or do you use a separate unit? And I can't find any de-priming dies on the Forester website. What do you use to de-prime? Thanks

Answers:

Q1) I always prime with a separate unit (Lee or RCBS Hand Priming Tool) with any single stage press.

Q2) Your kidding right?

Forster Full Length Die Instructions

But perhaps you mean a universal depriming die only, that does not resize? If so I don't think Forster makes one, but Lee does, and it's only around $15.

No not kidding, just a rookie. I did not know that the sizing dies removed the primers. I also did not know that you re-sized the brass before tumbling. Thanks

Re: Forester owners, 2 questions...

No, I do not prime on the Forster. I use an RCBS bench primer and a Lee universal decapping die to de-prime.

I prefer to de-prime in a separate step and the Lee die works well for this. Replacement pins are very cheap and easy to change.

Re: Forester owners, 2 questions...

I use the RCBS Universal hand primer. Like the Co-Ax, it does not need shell holders either. The Forster hand/bench primer is tube-fed does not need separate/additional shell holders. I've heard it is very good, but I have not tried it.

I either de-prime while sizing, or use an RCBS universal depriming die. Just change out the lock rings on Lyman, Redding, RCBS, Dillon and Lee dies, and replace them with Forster, Hornady, or Sinclair cross-bolt lock rings.

I have milled out a slot in an RCBS primer tray lid that I use to fill the tubes for the Forster stand alone priming tool.

Re: Forester owners, 2 questions...

Unlike many other presses, the forester always seats primers perfectly. However it is a bit awkward, being behind the lever. I like the sinclair hand primer best. I am not a fan of the rcbs and gave mine away. The rcbs is white metal and plastic and I have concerns about priming with a bunch of primers inches away. I not use federal primers due to warnings about the rcbs hand primer system safety with those primers, but even for other primers I feel individual feed priming is safest.

Re: Forester owners, 2 questions...

I leave the press set up for .473" Large primed cases. I leave the RCBS hand tool set up for 223.

I like the way the press primes. The large primers are easier to handle in the press due to their larger size. I would not be a fan of doing small primers on the press with my big fingers.

Re: Forester owners, 2 questions...

My process for precision rifle ammo is:
(1)Deprime/resize on the CO-AX with the factory Forster sizing die.
(2)Throw all deprimed brass in the tumber for 3 hours..removed the lubricant and makes brass look like new.
(3) Prime all brass with my RCBS handheld tool
(4) Charge all cases with powder
(5) Insert bullets and seat to proper OAL w/Forster BR seating die.

I just purchased a new RCBS Pro2000 auto, and set it up for .45ACP. This thing really cranks out the ammo!
I might try loading .308 on it for grins, but would still size/deprime on the CO-AX and tumble clean...and then run it thru the progressive (without the sizing die installed). I want to see how ammo loaded on this will compare with the stuff loaded on my single stage CO-AX...and shoot it in the AR-10T.
