Forming 7mm-08 brass

Re: Forming 7mm-08 brass

I just trimmed to length and sized them with a 708 neck sizer with no issues...did the same thing with 708 to 243 when I got rid of the 708, but I had also turned the necks to .014 on all the cases involved...don't think that is necessary tho..I have been told to watch for a donuts that might form at junction of neck and shoulder when doing this, but I did not have that problem...I was using a 308 neck sizer with bushing to do the job at hand and could size all the way to the shoulder with it...

Re: Forming 7mm-08 brass

I am having the reamer made so thats not an issue. pt&g is making one so it fits nicely with 308 lapua brass with a 162 amax seated out to 2.92 touches with lands with fits perfectly in the aw mags i will be running. this way i can run good brass that is reasonable price and use the extra coal in the aw mags to its fullest potential.

Re: Forming 7mm-08 brass

I full length sized all my Lapua .308 brass down to 7mm-08.

And yes, the neck junction does move forward. That isn't a big issue as long as you don't move the bottom of the shoulder which you shouldn't. On a 7mm-08 the shoulder is 1.5598" and on the .308 it's 1.560". Even though Remington "got credit for the round" it was already being wildcatted in that form and .308 was being necked down.

Basically what I did was just size down in 1/16th-1/32nd turn of the die increments until the cases fit my chamber. I could just barely see the die impression on the shoulder where it bumped it back ever so slightly.

In my case I didn't need to turn the necks. After I fire though I'm still getting about .0015"-.001" hold on the bullets. So, I just use my .280AI die and pop primers and reseat and load.
