Forster Coax Question

    Anyone know what the purpose of the shim piece is on the base of the Forster Coax? It’s the blued steel piece in the pic.

    The wear plate so the normal sliding jaws and case have a smooth surface and dont drag over the machined surface below. Things float and slide easier when there isnt a textured surface that they could potentially "grab" onto. Its also easier to replace that single piece if it does get worn over time than the entire lower jaw.
