Freebore for 115 dtac

My reamer is a .163, and is about the shortest id go. The saami 183 would be just fine as well. Certainly shorter will work, but you just start pushing the bullet deeper than necessary. I’ll be back with some pics I took of some loaded rounds.

L to R: 115 rbbt, 105 hybrid, 110 smk these are at touching in a .163 fb chamber.

OAL:
115 2.809
105 2.803
110 2.893

There is a thread on the site (couldnt find it) where a guy comes to conclusion to run 110 and have the bullets positioned nicely in the neck and not too deep into the case is ~ .150 FB and for the ~ .180 FBfor DTACs.

One point that was brought up with the more shallow bore was the ability to chase the lands over the length of the barrel life.

The neck length is .295 on a creedmoor. If the bottom of the bearing surface were right at the neck/shoulder, there’s miles to chase lands. The short case coupled with a long neck make that a pretty easy balance to obtain. Only reason I went as short as I did was so it would do double duty with 105 and 115 bullets. If i were doing 115’s only, id have gone saami freebore (.183) in a heartbeat.
