So, I have a new product that I've been pretty excited about. I've been acquiring additions for my nikon ED 82 as many of the accessories are being/have been discontinued. As I now understand, this is to push their much more expensive EDG line and the new Monarch line of spotters that will be coming out soon. They actually look very promising. The unit is interchangeable with different pieces making a variety of configuration. Eg. The scope can be changed from an angled to straight design.

This isn't digiscoping in the traditional sense... its an adapter (FSA-L1) that connects a dslr body directly to the spotting scope (bypassing the eyepiece) and essentially creating a massive telephoto lens at a fraction of the price. This will not only greatly improve optical quality but virtually eliminate any vignetting or aberration by removing any additional air to lens surfaces.

I am not advocating this as a must buy... However, if you already own a Fieldscope and have enthusiasm for photography I would certainly recommend it as a nice addition.

The adapter is interchangeable with all three sizes in the fieldscope line. There is a switch on the adapter to select which objective size you are using. For the 82mm that I have the telephoto focal length equals 1,500mm. Not to shabby for $300+. It is significantly less magnification than digiscoping with a point and shoot + eyepiece (3,500+mm).

It is of course not as pristine or sophisticated as a true dedicated $8-10,000 lens but I believe it's a nice addition and well worth the money.

Focusing is archived through the helical ring on the scope. Finding the optimum settings is a bit tricky and is very dependent on the amount and place of available light.

As is, the helical focus ring provides excellent control, focusing incredibly flat and close
