I friend of mine asked if the military used the acronym FTA (failure to assimilate). Just curious as I have never served in the military.

Foxtrot Tango Alpha as people would say. Fuck The Army "FTA" was in heavy use during Vietnam by the protesters. It kind of took off after the Fort Hood three.

Sounds kind of like "failure to adapt" which is what we called it in the Marine Corps. It was a type of Entry Level Separation (ELS), and was usually for the "I want my mommy" types....
It fell under the "Good of Service (Administrative)" category.
