A buddy called me yesterday and asked me to video his new RC car.
Damned little thing will go!

Video via Droid phone

Re: Fun With RC Cars

I've got an R/c plane that does about 155mph....I may video tape it next time I fly it.

Planes are more challenging! LEss resistance, but 3d -

Re: Fun With RC Cars

Awww fun times! My Traxxas was clocked at almost 80 MPH when I upgraded the speed control. Fast little bugger it was, but drained the battery very quick. I'd be lucky if I got 3 or 4 minutes on a full charge.

Re: Fun With RC Cars

There's a guy that runs a gas powered porsche where we fly at, FAST sucker - that thing does 90mph or more -

Electric is fast tho, just runs out faster...airplanes are going that way slowly but surely, I"m a dinosaur at the flying field...and I'm the only Nitro flyer out there now.

Re: Fun With RC Cars

I thought RC planes would be a good thing to get into, got a glider to learn and ended up getting an F-35 last year, 90mph is a great deal quicker than a hand-launch glider. Let's just say if my learning curve wasn't about 0.5 seconds i'd probably have a lawsuit that involved an impaled bystander and an RC plane... that thing is insane.

The cool thing about nitro planes is the ability to track them by using the smoke trail they leave. Can't do that with electric.

Do you build your planes yourself or buy kits?

Re: Fun With RC Cars

Ahh the good ole days. Reminded me of my 1/8th scale Mugen MRX3 with a JP moddified Novarossi engine, 94mph top speed! Expensive hobby though, each crash cost at least $100 in repairs, not to mention the cost of foam tires, but that was a part of the fun. Also had a 2WD 1/5th scale on-road car for a while, not as fun as the 1/8th scale.

2 Kits and 1 scratch built...the scratch built has a fox 25 on it, the OS 15FX just didn't do it...

The Q500 plane has a Fox Q500 engine, .46 BB with tuned exhaust, the Tiger II has a .46 OS Fx on it - had a tuned muffler but it fell off and got ran over, back ordered till July ...LOL

I've got a heli right now, been thinking of building a small/light plane from scratch just to learn to fly a fixed wing. Pretty simple to do with some strong poster board and a few electronics.

with those engines it's no wonder your planes haul ass.
