I went to the range today for a shoot off between Hornady factory 140 ELD-M and some very expensive 140 ELD-M loaded by a “boutique” maker. To make a long story short, most of the 12 rounds fired from the boutique failed to extract from my KRG SOTIC. The 12th round was the final straw, it required a cleaning rod down the muzzle (which makes me cringe). Running the bolt a second or third time did for the other 7 or 8 that didn’t come free the first time.
As the title implies, the boutique ammo was loaded in Lapua brass w/ small primer pocket. The ammo ran a MV of 2680 fps (vs. 2660 for the Hornady) w/ SD of ~10 fps. I didn’t note anything obviously amiss other than the FTE.
Is there any common/expected/obvious reason this brass would cause issues? Maybe a known issue I’m ignorant of?
Yes, I know that would be a TON of irony if Lapua brass wasn’t running through a Sako/Sako homage action.
