Hi, I have been looking around the hide for a while. I dont post much because I do not consider myself to know enough to weigh in on the posts I read, but I learn alot from what I read. Any way I will get to the point. I am graduating from college next month. I already have a job lined up, and I am pleased with the way my college carrier has gone, so I want to get myself a graduation gift. I am thinking that a custom rifle from GAP would be the way to go for that. I have read alot about people buying a custom rifle and backing the smith up because they do not know what they want and the smith ends up asking them questions that they do not know the answers too ect ect... Well I have been wanting a 300 win mag for a while. I have been doing long range shooting 600-1,000 yards, and have started shooting F/TR matches at 600 and 1,000 yards with my .308 5R. I think that the .300 win mag is the next step for me. So I put together the following specs.

GAP Base Custom Rifle .300 Win Mag Desert Tan Cerakote
GAP Templar Action Upgrade Right Hand
AI 2.0 Stock upgrade Dark Earth
Badger M-5 7075 Alloy
Badger FTE Brake
Badger Tactical Knob
Barrel Fluting
Bed Stock
Hand Lapped 26" #7 Contour Bartlein Barrel
Jewell Trigger 2.5 lbs

Total $5,285

What else do I need to decide on before I call up GAP. Any opinions on the set up? Thanks for any help in advance.

Re: GAP Graduation Gift to Myself

I figure I have to wait a while for the gun anyway, getting badger rings, I trust them after all my previous good luck with them. I am thinking USO SN-3 for the glass. But if I get the gun before I get glass, I will put my Mark 4 8.5-25x50 on it. I have 3/4 of the rifle set aside for glass for it.

It would suck to spend all your grad money on a sweet stick and have to wait on a scope. </div></div>

Re: GAP Graduation Gift to Myself

you will need a good bipod.

Ask them if they have any scopes in stock. if not order one, ship it to them and they will mount it for you

Sir,
I like your logical approach and the replys are good as well. I think you are on the right track with the SN 3. Have you considered a longer barrel? The reason I ask is that it will shoot faster, and be quiter, if you choose not to suppress. I really think you should try the AICS prior to buying. JMO.

Thanks, I will get behind an AICS and shoot before I buy. I have held/fiddled with one that my buddy has, but havent pulled the trigger on it. I will get him to drag it out one of these days. As for a longer barrel, I am considering it. Thinking about a 28" or 30", because the gun will also see a little bit of hunting (we hunt off of horse back so I wont be carrying it haha) and I think anything over 30" would be a pain in the rear end when out in the sticks.

I like your signature. That is what I am trying to do with this build. Thanks for the graduation congratulations aswell.

Re: GAP Graduation Gift to Myself

Yea I got a few scabbards, one of them fits my rem 700 target tactical. It is a big gun with that B&C stock on it, so I am hoping that the custom gun will fit in it aswell. If not I will make another one for the custom gun. I dont intend on doing much hunting with it, but just a bit here and there, mainly a range/target gun. Thanks for the tip though.

Not to many will fit tactical guns...

this is what I run...
