Garand Grades

I have a service grade that’s pretty nice and I would recommend that one. That said, I’ve heard of people ordering field grade rifles and getting one as good as a service grade. To a degree it seems a matter of luck of the draw.

I went with a service grade and was very happy. I am not sure if it is at all feasible for you, but I can’t say enough how much of a treat it was to go to Camp Perry and pick one out. The gentleman behind the counter was very helpful in helping me select my rifle and showing me how to disassemble and care for it. You just walk around until one calls to you.

I've bought Rack, Field, and Service Grades through the years and I would recommend the Service Grade. My Rack Grade was pretty rough. I picked up my Field Grade at the store in Anniston and had a lot of rifles to choose from so it is pretty nice. If you can't make it to one of the stores the Service Grade is your best bet.
