I have a couple of gear bags that I use for different setups depending on what I plan on shooting. For my indoor pistol range times I have a bag setup for that, outdoor range bench type AR shooting I have a specific bag setup for that. I am thinking about getting a new back for my long range precision shooting. As I'm pretty new to this type of shooting, nothing really outside of 200 yrds yet, I was wondering what I should be looking for in a good bag for this setup. What would you guys recommend?

I think this falls down to two main things: how much stuff do you want to carry and how far do you need to carry it? I have a nra backpack that was a gift from them that I use for most of my range stuff which does well but is a little small. It works well for range trips none the less. If I’m taking my stuff out into the field for hunting then I use a Kifaru backpack which carries the weight worlds better and then I pair down a few things.

I use one of my old patrol bags for flat range work.

They are often on sale and I picked it up for $20 years ago. It survived being taken in and out of patrol cars every day and now serves as my long range shooting bag. https://lapolicegear.com/lapg-operator-patrol-bag.html

It’s large enough hold a couple shooting bags, magnetospeed, data books, range finder, tools, printed targets, ammo, binos, and water flasks.

It really depends on what gear you want to have with you, but I’d definitely recommend a larger bag vs a smaller one.

Figure out what gear you typically have with you, and then find a bag that can fit all of it.

Good luck!

Thanks for the input guys. I like that LAPG bag. Looks like it would hold a lot if I needed it to. I have a Maxpedition Falcon III backpack that I keep loaded out with my folding stock AR pistol and 3 pmags, extra handgun mags, trauma kit, water, fire kit, comms, and various other items. I will use this when I need to carry for long distances.

I am mostly looking to carry to the range the items I will need for that session such as eye/ear protection, cleaning kit, pmags, ammo, few tools, spotting scope, Kestrel meter, range finder, mildot gauge, sand sock, shooting mat, log book, water, snacks, hat, gloves, IFAK, maybe a poncho or some kind of extra outerwear, sunscreen, bug spray, and anything I may be forgetting. I'm sure that I might not be carrying all that every time but it might be nice to be able to.

Also, I wouldn't mind being able to use my bag as a rest for when I don't want to use the bipod.
