I bought a Spikes piston upper last week here from OneShot OneKill and give a big thumbs up to dealing with him. Item exactly as described and he shipped immediately.
I've been wanting to try a suppressed piston upper and my buddy brought over one of his Gemtechs this afternoon.
Shooting 62 gr green tip full loads the gun cycled on both the full and half positions. Report was in line with a regular upper.
The subsonic loads is where the big smiles came from. Using Clays pistol powder and 55gr Hornady pills, the gun cycled every round in full but on half it only moved the bolt back about 1/4" and had the typical air gun silencer noise. I'm wanting to try some trail boss in the next batch.
With it turned completely off is where the real fun was. This is the quietest AR I've ever shot. All I could hear was the hammer drop and the pill whistling through the air, then the smack of the bullet on the target. I had my buddy shoot and I stood about 15 yds away and all you could hear was the bullet flying and hitting the target. This was as quiet as the "movie silencer" you see in the movies.
Next we put a 22 conversion in and shot a few rounds through it. Regular 22 lr ammo cycled fine and was as quiet as a Regular AR upper.
My buddy has already decided he wants a piston upper now. I'll try to get a video next time.
