In Pharmacology, all drugs have two names, a trade name and generic name. For example, the trade name of Tylenol also has a generic name of Acetaminophen. Aleve is also called Naproxen. Amoxil is also call Amoxicillin and Advil is also called Ibuprofen.

The FDA has been looking for a generic name for Viagra. After careful consideration by a team of government experts, it recently announced that it has settled on the generic name of Mycoxafloppin. Also considered were Mycoxafailin, Mydixadrupin, Mydixarizin, Dixafix, and of course, Ibepokin.

Re: generic drug names

Little factoid (or at least a really good lie): I was always told that Viagra was not originally tested for impotence. It's original use was as an anti-anginal (chest pain) agent. It didn't fare well for that purpose as was filed away as a "failed" medication. Reportedly, someone was looking through old files and found the one for sildenafil. They noted a large number of participants in the original trial reported erections. The medication was brought back to life and studied for it's new purpose. So, like a number of other noteworthy discoveries in medicine (including penicillin and x-rays), the "little blue pill" was an accident...
