Gunsmithing getting rust out of a pistol barrel

Re: getting rust out of a pistol barrel

tub of water baking soda and a car battery charger, forget the exact configuration but you put one lead on the rust part and the other on a rod going into the water. my boss tried it and it worked on some wheels, i think he found it on the "trucks" television show website.

What type of pistol?

How bad is it rusted?

I would start with a bronze brush and solvent to get the loose rust out and go from there.

Re: getting rust out of a pistol barrel

Use straight vinegar in a covered container. Cover the barrel with the vinegar, put the lid on the container and leave it for 24 hours. I have used this several times to clean up severely rusted tools.

I saw the same show, it seemed to work on the show. I do not think it was baking soda though, I tried it, but my battery charger would not work unless it was hooked to a battery, so I never got to test it.

Wrap multiple bullets in sand paper and shoot, repeat until rust is gone.
