Any one have the average girth depth for Texas Whitetail deer and feral hogs? for ranging.

Re: girth depth for animals

Their sizes vary too much to be reliable enough for accurate ranging, but 14" - 19" depending on age, weight, and genetics.

For comparison, here is a 7 1/2+ year old next to a very healthy 4 1/2 year old. The mature deer's body outsizes him by 20% or more in every measurement.

Re: girth depth for animals

If you can get the deer to face you, you could measure the spread from ear tip to ear tip. TPWD seems to think that measurement is 13". Hogs vary too much to put a definitive number on.
