Anyone else feel like we have entered a "Golden Era" of optics? All of the current manufacturers, all of the awesome products which are available, the mind-numbing choices. It is almost a pain in the ass having so many solid options.

Re: Golden Era

No doubt things are better now than they have ever been for optics. Hope market forces do not cause manufactures to cut corners or quality. If they do then you may truly be correct in stating these are the golden years much like the 50's and 60's were the golden years on American blued steel and walnut rifles.

And I agree also that there are many fine choices for scopes so one needs to do a little home work to find the optics that suit them but that's better than no choices. I think part of the improvements is also because of competition between the scope makers to stand out above the others. That helps drive the choices we get to make as a side benefit. I hope we're a long way from the top because I can see there's still allot of room for improvement and not just in price but in features and quality.

Re: Golden Era

eh, only if it's non digital read out, non laser, non self centering, unlit plain old analog glass I suppose that could be said. I am waiting for the digital revolution to take over scopes in the near future so mil dots and mils and all that other hocus pocus will be obsolete. Just think, no more math, no more mil dot work, just aim center mass and shoot no matter what. The scope does it all automatically. Now where did I put that pipe...

I just hope Microsoft has no hand in designing it!

Better than having a blue screen crash in the middle of a match!

Re: Golden Era

Frankly, I hope we never see the day when an internal laser does the ranging for use and adjusts the reticle for us automatically. Why? Half of the fun I derive from this friggin insanely expensive hobby is in learning how to master the technical aspects of long-range shooting. I've got a LONG way to go before I'd even consider myself good, and it would suck to have someone come along with enough money to afford a whiz-bang scope that does all the work for him and get beat by the new guy just because he had more dough to throw around.

YMMV.

Re: Golden Era

All I see is every new manufacturer coming with new scopes in the $2000+ range that are no better or more reliable than the scopes that were already available. It's a fashion to make your own scope and market it at $2500.
