This compares to a Leverevolution load?

I tried to calculate the strength of my NEF Handi Rifle, same design as the H&R, back in 2000:
http://groups.google.com/group/rec.guns/...e4bfe260f2cb347
I have gone to ~ 90kpsi in 45/70 [405 gr., 32 gr Unique] and the brass flowed into the extractor mis fit, but I have not tested the spray pattern for pierced primers, and there may be a path back to the shooter.

"Speer 12" 1994, "The 30-30 case is an old design with relatively thin walls."
This is BS if you cross section the brass. The 30-30 case is a very sturdy design.
I have run 90kpsi in various brands of 30-30 brass in Savage break action rifle [220 gr., 39 gr W748].
+++++++++++
In Quickload, if I plug in 30-30, 125 gr Nos BT, 2.54", 22" barrel, 27.5 gr Varget, I get 24kpsi, 1985 fps

If I plug in 33.5 gr, I get 43 kpsi, 2437 fps, 111% powder compression.

If I look at Hodgdon's web site, 130 gr, 2.54, 32.5 gr Varget, 2312 fps
And 36 gr is compressed and gets 2496 fps

"Nosler 5" 1992 shows Varget as even wimpier in 30-30.
++++++++++++++
I have shot (8) deer between 329 and 510 yards in the last 2 years with 130 gr 270 Nos Ballistic tip moving at ~ 1800 fps at the outer ranges. I mostly shoot them in the lungs, and they either run 50', stagger 50', or fall down dead.
++++++++++++
What does it all mean?
1) One could probably go higher in pressure than SAAMI registered pressures in that strong rifle.
2) Quickload and Hodgdon say, and Nosler suggests, you need more powder to get that velocity.
3) My experience confirms that the ballistic tip bullet expands and dumps energy at 1800 fps.

Re: good load for 30 30 single shot deadly 278 yds

One can do that with just about any older caliber when taken from a repeater application to a sturdy single shot...take the 45/70 for example. What you buy in the store is made to fire in almost any 45/70 out there, and is rather wimpy. Take that same round and handload it in chamber pressures for something like a Ruger #3 single shot, and it's a completely different round.

Re: good load for 30 30 single shot deadly 278 yds

A friend of mine had a Rem 788 in 30-30. By loading his own he could get close to 308 accuracy from it. Loading his own also meant he could choose his own style of bullets. With 150 grain flat base bullets he was getting about .75 moa. For what he used it for, it did really well.

I use 36 grains of H4895 and 125 gr BT in TC contender hunter 14" and have several 150 kills on a few sisters.
