Can you describe your load development when using a chronograph. Do you do a velocity test first looking for flat spots then work on fine tuning the powder charge then seating depth?

Still new to reloading the last workups I did was to do an OCW workup for the closest verticle centers and then work seating depth. All this was done with no way of telling how consistent the loads were.

What is your process?

How many rounds do you have down the barrel? You will need about 100 and sometimes that's
not enough for the barrel to stabilize it's speed.
What caliber is this for?
Load one round every .2g of powder over your desired range. Might be 10 shots might be 20 if your
not sure and new at this. Yes you do a velocity test to see where the "flat" spot(s) is and then shoot a
group with 3-4 rounds to see if that area holds up. Then you can if needed change the seating depth
to fine tune the load.
You have the Magnetospeed on only with the velocity check. It will change the size and POI when your looking
at your group size.
You can also be looking for your max charge for powder. This is handy to know. So watch for pressure signs in the upper
end of your test.

What is your process?

Know roughly what charge weight/velocity I'm after.
Load up a ladder in 0.2 or 0.3 increments, 5 shots per charge weight
Shoot OCW with three rounds of each weight.
Shoot 2 rounds each weight with chrono attached, record velocity.

Go home and look at results... where is the OCW flat spot for POI? Is there a velocity flat spot and does it correspond to the OCW? Any insights from group size/shape? Pick a powder node then go test seating depth to see if you can tighten groups further.

If you have a way to free float the chrono off the barrel you can reduce to 3 shots per charge weight and shoot the OCW and chrono at the same time.

it really depend, long range or 100 yards.

if you just enjoy a bughole group at 100 yards, you really don't need to chrono. you just need to find which seating depth make your group smaller.

For the long range, i chrono and get to my OCW. After i found my OCW, then i play with seating depth.

I am loading for .308 and 6.5 Grendel. I put 10 rounds of the .308 over the Chrono with an SD of 9 8 rounds of the 6.5 Grendel and had an SD of 12. The .308 is an RPR the 6.5 is a gas gun.

I'm goint to start trying the "develop a load first then chronograph" method. Seems like it would save some shots through my barrels. Either that or sell the MS and go Labradar. In all honesty though I find VERY little difference with the bayo on or off and am getting a fleeting notion it may actually shoot tighter groups with it on. Barrel harmonics are weird.
