Hello everyone!
To be honest, I'm not entirely sure what I'm doing. I'm fairly new to the gun world. My first rifle was a Savage MKII-FV/SR about 7 years ago that I really enjoyed shooting at 100 yards. I got the itch and built my AR that I thought I was building into more of a precision rifle. Shooting those two rifles and I've been told that I should really look into competition and long range shooting. I don't know if I've actually got potential or if people are just being nice. A lot of my shooting is intuition, it's not like I've taken the time to memorize 5mph wind vs 10mph.
The best shooting I think I've done is:
With the Savage 22 and a Catseye(?) BSA scope:
Half inch black dots at 100yrds with an average of 88%. (I would print off dots to a piece of paper and tear off 10 for one target)
With the AR and a Vortex Strike Eagle 1-6:
Quickly jogging 200 yards with rifle (100 yards to target and back) and magpodding 3-5 shot groups at half MOA
Reliably hitting a 675yd 24" steel plate with factory ammo (no precision loads). It took me two shots the first time. First shot was where I thought I should be aiming after my friends took 12-24 shots to get it with their 308 XBolt and 6.5 RPR, 2nd shot was the first hit.
I know I'm pretty good shooting clay pigeons with my father in law's over under. I'm definitely not worried there.
I've also got a CZ phantom that I know I need work with, but I hit a 167yd (same 24" plate).
My wife just bought me a Tikka T3X CTR in 308 for Christmas, but I'm still picking out a scope.
If none of that's any good, what's a decent test? I like the idea of competing, but I'm a student atm and, whether right or wrong, I'd rather have a modicum of talent before I actually invest in competition (I know it can take a lot of time and $$$).
Either way, I think I'd like to stick around for at least pointers on making sure I can outshoot my friends, haha
