I am pondering the sense in trying to ballpark a used rifle's barrel condition base on what I know about the area, the caliber of the rifle, and the current configuration of the rifle. The rifle is a pre-Accutrigger Savage 110 Police model 30-06 bone stock with Standard style scope bases. I know the caliber is 30-06 and thus unlikely to be burned out quickly. The configuration makes me think it was a deer hunter's rifle and what I know about the area and gun shop supports that assumption. Based on that, I'm inclined to think that the barrel has probably not been shot-out due to round count. The only fault I see with such logic is that it is based on the assumption that the previous owner was not a moron and didn't neglect the rifle. Prior observation indicates that I am assuming too much. Any thoughts? And no, I'm not a player on this rifle. I just get bored quickly and my mind starts to wander. The price on the rifle is $550 and I could probably get it for $450 with cash.

usually, hunting rifles look rough with great bores ( carried a lot and shot very little) target rifles will look new with 50/50 chance of worn out bore.
If it is a savage, who cares, buy it shoot to check acuracy and go from there, dwelling on a bore condition is not worth wasting time.
    cheers.
