Hey fellas, Ive been around the shooting scene for about 17 years now and am extremely interested in learning how to run a lathe and at least helping someone build a rifle or two. Ive had several rifles built by a few different smiths and have asked for a chance to at least watch them build with no luck. I'm looking for a chance to be involved in the process of chambering and threading a barreled action mainly but am willing to learn more and or help out around a shop. I'm not looking for a job but will help out for free. I do have knowledge of the basics. installing triggers, the proper way to mount/level optics, barrel break in procedures and bedding. If any smiths out there are will to give me a chance to learn a little I would highly appreciate it. My background includes 7 years as a sheriffs deputy/ sniper on our swat team. Thanks

Thanks for the advice ill have to give him a shout. Yes I'm still in college station. I tore my shoulder at work so I am on disability for the next 2 months while I get back to 100%. That being said..... I am willing to travel to do this. even if it means catching a plane somewhere. I couldn't imagine the feeling in the first rifle, built by your own hands, shooting a clover group. Would be epic so say the least.
