H&K MR556

Re: H&K MR556

I just picked one up last weekend. The quality seems excellent, but I have not had it to the range yet. hopefully that will happen July 30th or 31st. A lot of people complain about the weight, but I don't really think it's that bad. Another complaint some have is the take down pins. You need to use the tool which is stored in the buttstock in order to push a detent in the center of the pin to pull them out. Some have said this could be a concern if you have a malfunction and have to take it down to clear it. I could frankly care less about this. I bought it with the hope of reliability: I took a pistol course awhile back and had reliability issues with my handgun (I'd never shot 1500 rounds through it in two days, and it just wouldn't handle that many rounds without cleaning). I bought the MR556 because I am confident I can take it through a carbine course without worrying about maintenance during the course. Hopefully I am right about that. One thing kind of interesting about the MR556 compared to traditional AR's is that you can put the safety on at anytime - the hammer doesn't have to be cocked to do so.

Re: H&K MR556

+well finished
+solid system
+very, very good and well finished barrels. Some extreme accurate, most very.

-needs lighter trigger
-pretty heavy, and center mass in front. Slow to turn even compared to HBAR AR carbine
-PMAGs wont lock without minor mod

Also guys in A-stan (not american) suffered major mailfuncions, cant remember were they 308 or 556 tho. Fine sand+gunpowder residues sticked in gas piston. As result few rifles blew up, apparently due to breech which wasnt properly closed.
I heard rumour that HK fixed this issue already so shouldnt be problems with it.

Re: H&K MR556

the 417 had a lot of growing pains, the 416 not so much. problem is finding and getting parts when something breaks. that is the major downfall of piston systems if it does down you are SOL in most theatres unless you come with a armorer with spares.
