I have been using H4831 with 250 grain scenars, but would like to load some 300 SMK and I was wandering if anyone has used this powder with 300 grain bullets. The Sierra manual shows it, but have noticed a lot of shooters are using RL25 . Any input would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I would go with Retumbo first the H1000 second. H4831 can be used with light loads and 250gr projectiles but it is a waste of the cartridge get retumbo as it is also more stable than Re25

I have collected a lot of data on R-25 vs retumbo with regards to temperature. The retumbo was much more temperature stable and seems to have similar performance.

I would start with 250 gr with that 1:11 twist. and if u r goin for precision and quality go with VihtVouri powder.... HANDS DOWN. as far as bulletts i like the 250 SMKs ofcourse and the 250 lapua lock base scenars. The Finns have been mastering the 338LM for far more yrs than the US. They use a 1:12 twist @~27" barrell with a MV of about 2950. If u want more details PM me, ill give you my load data which comes direct from some heavy hitters, and it works awesome for me

Re: H4831 for 338 lapua

In my Sako TRG 42 I use 99 gr. of Retumbo with 250 Lapua bullets loaded to 3.68 oal which chronos at 3000 fps. I tried H4831 SC, but had poor accuracy and low velocity. My rifle has 1/10" twist. The 300 smk try 92.6 gr of Retumbo which should be around 2800
