I'm shooting a 7 Sherman short (7 SAUM for all intents and purposes of this question).

I have a very accurate and consistent load w/ 180gr vld hunters, but it is slow (62.4gr h1000 seated .083 off lands gives me 2825 fps w/ an es of 8-10 & and SD of 4.5-5).

The slow velocity coupled with the growing scarcity of h1000 has me searching for a new load. I'm moving to the 175 elite hunter bullet. Curious if anyone shoots any 7mm short mag w/ h4831 and a ~170-180. What were your findings? Where'd you start running into pressure?

I have a 7mm WSM which I think is a little larger capacity than your 7SS and with 175-184gr projectiles H4831SC was way too fast. I'd hit pressure early and didn't get much velocity out of it. I never tried H1000 but I could hit 3000fps with a case full of Retumbo.

    I'd look for Re23, Re26, Re33, IMR7828, H1000, Retumbo, etc. and some Vihtavuori equivalents if I had a choice.

If you're looking for inexpensive and available and you don't mind a little temperature instability you can look at Superformance. IME it's quite a bit slower than H4831SC, dense and you get good velocity and low ES out of it. FWIW it meters great too. I use it in a 7mm Wildcat (between a 7mm-08AI and 284Win) and can drive 180s to 2850fps in a 28" barrel.
