I first started break in with H1000 looking to get into the 2825-2900 fps range. As I started reaching the 2825 fps range I was already compressed @ 74.2 gr. I started pushing further and finally got to the 2900 fps mark with 75.2 gr. Loading upto this point meant the sound of crunch crunch crunching of powder (nerve racking to say the least) So with a suggestion of H4831SC I set out to see what it would do. I loaded up some 5 shot test loads of both H1000 and H4831SC heres what I found:
H1000
1st group 74.7gr -velocity hi 2875 lo 2827 avg. 2850 group 1.1"
2nd group 75 gr -velocity hi 2878 lo 2852 avg. 2866 group .9"
3rd group 75.3 gr -velocity hi 2930 lo 2899 avg. 2913 group .8"
H4831SC
1st group 69.2 gr -velocity hi 2781 lo 2752 avg. 2770 group .6"
2nd group 69.5 gr -velocity hi 2785 lo 2764 avg. 2774 group .65"
3rd group 69.8 gr -velocity hi 2862 lo 2841 avg. 2850 group .4"
Hitting the 2850 fps range in H1000 meant 100+% compressed load and the 2850 fps range in H4831SC is somewhere in the 95-97% compressed range. The spreads in hi-lo were tighter in the 4831SC than the H 1000 and the group sizes were clearly better. All these loads were seated touching the lands and I will start pulling away from there to find the sweet spot, but for now I have a load I can take with me down to Raton, NM for the next sporting rifle match. These were my results and I hope they help.
