Night Vision Hand Held Night Vision

No

If you want a decent thermal monocular to hunt with, then new you are looking at around $2,500 ... used lower. Look at the pulsars.

This is about the bottom of the barrel for hunting usable, I didn't know they still sold these.

I don't know too much about these devices as I've never used anything night vision. But I'm sure you actually can find some stuff at low prices since a border patrol friend of mine happened to just sell a hand held NV device for $400.00.

Unlike a big part of the people on here, I don't think that one must absolutely waste spend as much money as possible and have nothing but the highest priced items all the time. OP won't get much use out of it since the device will only be used a few times outta the year.

Digital NV with a better illuminator, can help OP see terrain and critters in open out to 200yds ... the illluminator will light up the eyes if they are facing him.

Bushy Equinox-Z on left, T-20 illuminator on right. But if he wants to see the critters in or thru any sort of vegetation or detect at greater distances, then thermal scanner will get that job done, where as the above setup will not.

Cost for bushy and T-20 should be under $400.

Edit: I have detected and ID'd deer at 400-500yds with above setup WITH MOON. With no moon, then relying on illuminator and limit is reduced to around 200yds ... and no vegetation as the illuminator bounces off the vegetation and washes out.

Negatif, though I haven't tried that setup in a "Noah's Rain" ... so not sure it is all water proof. And haven't tried at below zero temps IIRC.

If you get something like this, you have to decide if you want the newer 4.5x base magnification bushy or the older 3x model. I got the 4.5x model before I knew the 3x existed, so then I got the 3x. The 4.5x also has a digital recorder, the 3x does not. On my land the 3x is better as I live in a valley along a creek and have a lot of close terrain. But if open terrain the 4.5x or even the 6x (I think there is a 6x) might be better. There is digital zoom. The image is actually amazingly clear when there is one.
The T-20s or "Evola's are available on Amazon, I think for around $30 these days.

It uses 4 x AA batteries, so if you will change batteries at night in the field, you need to practice up in the house without looking. Well first maybe 10 times looking and then maybe 20 times without looking.

Oh and I think that is a 1 inch diameter mount for the t-20 with a pic rail mount. The bushy's have pic rail mounts for accessories.
