I just had my Remington 700 in .308 taken apart. When I put it back together, I just hand tightened the action screws with an allen key till I coudnt get it any tighter. Will this do? I dont have a torque wrench or anything to use.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the stock is a B&C A2

Re: Hand tight action screws

You overtorqued them a LOT.

65 in-lbs is 5.4ish ft-lb, if you put all your might into a little allen key like that you're going to get more WAY more than what is necessary.

That doesn't even begin to discuss the consistency aspect of it.

ok I got a torque wrench today and torqed the screws to 5 foot pounds. Went to the range and sighted in and it was fine. With the wrench it ended up being way tighter than what I could do by hand anyway. Thanks for the replys.

just one thing. you may never have any issues. but for this work, you should look for one in inch pounds. much finer graduations. for scope screws, 15 inch pounds may be below what that wrench can meter
