I am looking for a handheld thermal and just looking for recommendations.

Budget is $4K or under
Prefer no internal battery
Prefer no CR123 batteries

Thanks

Any thermal scope suggestions that might work then?

My wife wants a thermal and I will be buying a standard NV scope at the same time. If it makes a difference I could go up in budget.

I do not like the idea of buying anything that would be a pain to have repaired/replaced if something goes wrong. Dealing with Chinese sellers before when something was wrong I have no desire to do that again.

Best bang for your buck is the Pulsar axion xm22 or the xm30 if you want to record video or images.
Sales going on all around for these units.
You could get an Apex and two decent digital NV scopes with upgraded IR illuminators for under $3500, if you do your homework.

I’ve had commercial digital units and never liked them. I followed a how to on a UK forum and built a digital night vision setup that will smoke most commercial digital night vision setups.

Digital NV= garbage
I would agree with you years ago, but after using a friends Wraith scope with a better IR, there's nothing safe.
Had the same or better pic than my Gen3 6x raptor and I didn't have to worry about light exposure with the wraith.
You pair that scope with a thermal spotter, and you have a deadly combination.
From what I've seen, the sour taste that the ATN X sight left is going to be washed away by the new pulsar digisight 450, but it has a much higher price tag than the wraith.
DNV has caught up and is giving NV scopes a serious run for the money and to say their garbage is just plain BS.
