I am looking to get a hard case (like a pelican) that will fit my Mcree folder that is 31" folded. I like the pelican 1700 ot the plaino aw. What are your recomendations based on experience. It will be used for air travel.

    Hey Jbell,

I would definetly go with the 1700 as it really is the only choice for traveling with a rifle unless you want to get slammed with a crazy over sized baggage fee (besides its equivalent stormcase model).

I recently purchased a pelican case for the purpose of having a hardcase to transport firearms while traveling. Unfortunately I made the mistake of going a bit too large and as a result my case is considered oversized. This can be a huge problem because some airlines like United will charge a fee of 100 dollars each way on top of the usual 25 for checked in baggage. Do yourself a favor and check this info on the pelican website to make sure you get a case that isn't oversized.

I like mine alot too. If you take the time to make a hot wire foam cutter and cut the foam yourself, you can get great results. If not, no big deal. Still a great case. I don't trust my stuff not getting "lost" when flying. Much rather ups the rifles to their destination if it's possible.

Thanks for the info everyone. I do have a large Pelican case and love it I just wanted to see if there were other options out there for the folders that I dont know about.

I have a couple of the old Hardigg Storm cases (now owned and manufactured by Pelican) that I love. I like the latches and handle better than the standard Pelican cases. Either one will provide great protection and are available in a variety of sizes.

Pelican, Storm and Starlight are good to go and all three offer cases in the 34-36" size range. In my experience the latches on Starlight and older Pelican cases are hard to operate while the Storm and newer Pelicans are much easier. I also saw a new Boyt hard case the other day that looked to be the equivelent of the Pelican.
