Harris Gunworks - Need Help identifying rifle

Hey all,

1st post over here, I'm a regular on Calguns, a California gun owners forum, and had posted pics of the following rifle for some help in getting info. I was referred over here, with the thought that you guys might be of assistance. Just looking to get a little info on this 700, as I understand it, Harris Gunworks is no longer in business, and I found very little info online, and nothing on this particular configuration. I'm not much of bolt guy, so I'm pretty clueless. Its obviously a Remington 700, it has an "E" prefix serial, with a 26" Barrel, and it appears to have been converted to accept M14 mags. past that, I dont have any additional specs on it. Can you guys provide some insight?

Re: Harris Gunworks - Need Help identifying rifle

You could contact McMillan and see if they will help you out.

Back in the early 90's IIRC, Harris and McMillan had been teamed up and then there was a great falling out between the two companies.

I had the opportunity to use two of the Models that were modified to use the M1A/M14 mags. Both weapons had McMillan stocks and were OK shooters, but the feed mechanism was finicky and had lots of issues because of the way the magazine fed into the chamber of the Remington. The weapons I used did not have the protuberance on the bottom of the stock that appears in your photos.

(Removed incorrect model number)

Anyone else feel free to chime in.

I do remember that is was a particularly nasty break up between Harris Gun Works and McMillan though.

Someone on this board should remember this as well.

Thanks for the bit of info guys! I was hoping someone would have the full run down on it, but maybe not.. I'll poke around a little more on the net, and try to contact someone at McMillian, but if the breakup was as bad as mentioned, that might be a dead end too.
