Has anyone purchased an actual Rem M24?

Re: Has anyone purchased an actual Rem M24?

I'm curious to know why they cost so dang much! I would bet money that thw GAP reproduction is more accuate than the Remington one.

If I were wanting an M24, i'd just build it:

Trued R700 LA- $550
HS stock- $300
Krieger/Bartlein/Rock Creek/etc./etc. barrel installed- $500
Leupold Mk4 10x40mm TMR/Mil-Dot $1400
Harris Bipod- $150
Badger M5 bottom metal installed- $450
Custom fitted Pelican case $500
Other accesories- $300
Gunsmithing- $????

Total- ~$4100

Let's be clear here (again

), I'm looking for anyone who purchased (or whose dept. purchased) these to hear about them. I'm curious about experience and performance with it (like how much extra work did it feel went into it from Remington, etc.?), as well as rationale for going with it.

I'm sure 95% of hide members would post exactly the same "What?! That price is absurd!" response

You can pick the rifle up by itself for about $3600 +/-.

From some one who has used one, when it came time for me to purchase my "dream rifle" I bought a custom, not an M-24. If your going to spend that kind of money on a rifle, you may as well get one that at least adjusts to you. Plus there's no need to have a Long Action .308W. The M-24 is more of a "one size fits all" solution.

The Army also just announced a modification to the M24 that includes stock adjustments. I'd be curious to see how the commercial variant will change.

Re: Has anyone purchased an actual Rem M24?

When i called remington military i about 3 months ago the M24 7.62 is approx 2900 dollars. The 2900 is for the rifle ONLY. If you dont believe me then go to this site

http://www.remingtonmilitary.com/contact.htm

If you want to buy it from remington and you are not a dealer then scroll to bottom of the screen and call Donna Watkins. I was told that if you call her and not a dealer....just regular individual that you would need payment by credit card or whatever and of course you FFL info for remington to send the weapon to. And when i did call at the time it was a 90 day build time for a M24 but things may have changed. Now all this info was from approx 3 months or so ago. I dont know where people get the 3600 for a M24 rifle only from since that is not accurate at all. If i wanted a M24...i would buy it from remington. Never buy a clone when you can get the original. Yes maybe the GAP might be more accurate. But people that i have known that want a m24 usually want it for the accuracy and to say that they own a quality authentic M24 for collectors reasons or whatever.

That's a very thoughtful and useful post.

I'm still curious, when the rubber hits the road, what the tangible difference is in build quality, ruggedness, and precision between one of these and an $800 700P

Re: Has anyone purchased an actual Rem M24?

All I can say about this is: If the M24 is a "Custom Shop" rifle like the 40X 7.62 Nato Repeater that I own, it will shoot FAR better than any of the Regular Production Remingtons.

That said, the only real difference is the Long Action which can be an advantage when shooting Heavy bullets because of overall length concerns with a short action Mag.

I had a 5R and I can tell you from direct experience that my 40X shoots quite a bit better. A lot may have to do with the Crappy trigger they put on the 5R. Not knockin' the 5R at all. It's just not in the same league.
