Kevin At High Caliber Sales is a GOD!
Got my Mod 0 off the FedX truck yesterday and it is Incredible!
I had him put it together with a Colt upper and I need to change out the KAC bi-pod mount with an arms mount
but needless to say its PERFECT! I bought a Mod1 bout this time last year from HCS and its been killin me every since to get a Mod0 so
Merry Christmas too me!!!
Heres where I could use a lil help from the Mod0 experts, I wanna put this upper on a Colt lower, Which one is gonna be closest to spec?
Not a huge Colt fan so I dont know alot about all their different model numbers and such, Not sure which stock I'm gonna run yet
A1-A2? or a SOPMOD? I have a SOPMOD on my Mod1 and really like it.

Appreciate any help or suggestions!

Doug

yep, though if your a taller guy like my father might want to go with a A2, its only 5/8ths of a inch but it does make a difference to a few people.

Edit: let me know which one you like more, i chose the mod 1 first as that was more toward my preference with the front sight being on the rail and not the barrel.

Re: HCS Mod 0

I wasnt really looking to build a lower but to even get close to spec it looks like I gotta get the tools out.

No-Dak Spud A-1? Everyone speaks highly of these lowers, I know nothing about em...Someone wanna fill me in please?

Re: HCS Mod 0

A lot of people use the 6920 lower, IIRC.

BUT BEWARE, colt likes to use large trigger pins on some of their stuff, so make sure you know what you are getting. Small pins are much easier to get aftermarket triggers for, IMHO.

If you are building and early mod 0, then the nodak a1 repro lower is a good choice. However, I believe an early one should also have a PRI gen II and the early ARMS rail, both of which are basically hens' teeth these days.

Iniatially I wanted to run a Colt lower but for the reasons you mentioned I dont have a clue as to what to look for?
Anybody wanna educate me on the Colt lowers? I would appreciate it!

Re: HCS Mod 0

I got a complete 6940 recently (nice rifle) and it has standard sized pins.

I read somewhere that Colt has totally stopped the large pin stupidity, but they did it for a while so it is something to take into account.

My HCS Mod1 sits on an LMT lower.

FWIW, my mk 12's are on CMMG lowers. I don't really think it matters unless you have to have EVERYTHING dead spec to satisfy some sort of OCD. </div></div>

I agree totally.

Re: HCS Mod 0

I coulda saved myself alotta money by buying a Doublestar and run around hollering I gotta MK12 Mod0! My MK12 Mod1 is on a LWRC lower and looks and runs good I just wanted to put my Mod0 as close to spec as I could for no other reason than thats what I wanted! OCD...yea, prolly?

Re: HCS Mod 0

My point is, even with a Colt lower or an a1 repro, it's still not a real mk12 because it wasn't assembled @ NSWC-Crane... and it doesn't have a happy switch (FA fire controls). Since the mod 0 was initially built on surplus m16a1 lowers, it would indeed have that oh-so-heavily-regulated little joy.

More power to you if you want to use a specific lower. Watch out for the pin sizes and you'll be ok. I wasn't picking on you, just saying that I wouldn't let the lower get in the way of finishing the build. You could be waiting quite a while for the nodak, since they don't always have them in stock. Colt will likely cost you a good deal more to do. Nobody will notice anyway, so at what point are you fixing what's not broke?

Re: HCS Mod 0

I understand what your saying, regardless of what you do you are not gonna have the "real deal" I'm sure my lack of patience will kick in before I very close so Im prolly gonna start educating myself on the Colt lowers, I havent owned a Colt AR in over 20yrs so it would still be a badass build either way!

All that largepin/smallpin makes my head hurt though!!!

I appreciate he help!

Re: HCS Mod 0

Does Colt even sell built/unbuilt lowers into the civilian marketplace?
Would you have to buy a complete rifle and sell off the upper if you really wanted a Colt lower for a build?

Just curious, anyone know?

Re: HCS Mod 0

I believe the Colt pin specs are all now mil-spec. I am working on a MK12 Mod 0 rifle and will be using the NoDakSpud A1 lower. Do you have any pics of your rifle to share?

Yes everyone who is trying to build them as exactly to spec as they can are using. No-dak Spud A-1 lowers, engraved with the original markings. That being said, last I head there was months worth of waiting time for one of these lowers. Best of luck with that and congrats on the bad ass upper. Please post us some range reports soon, as I myself just bought a barrel from Kevin as well.
