Headspace from a fired case?

Re: Headspace from a fired case?

Check headspace as compared to what? SAAMI specs? Go / No Go guages?

It's a wonderful tool for setting your full length sizing die to size brass for a particular rifle chamber.

Re: Headspace from a fired case?

Lets say SAMMI specs. the bump gage is a certain length and a certain angle. 20 deg I think and that headspace is measured from a datum point.if you trigged this angle out and the thickness of this gage would you get something useable? I bought it to set back shoulders and was wondering what if.Thanks

Re: Headspace from a fired case?

Not really. The bump gauges are really only good for comparisons which is why they call them comparators. They work great for reloading though. I think they are a must.

I like to take fired rounds and mark them for measurements on the side of the case in permanent marker and set them aside so I can always go back to them to "zero" out my calipers so they are right on the money.
