Hey all first time post but long time lucker. I have a few questions. I have a Savage TR I built to be a trainer to replace a semi-tricked Ruger 10/22 I sold but so far I have been less than impressed with its performance so Im going to replace it soon with some money I made selling off my collection of 1/6th scale action highly collectable action figures with a Sako Quad. Now I have seen the post (http://www.snipershide.com/forum/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=1818589) so I have an idea of what to get and where but I would like to know alittle more. I want to build it to look and feel like a USMC M40A1 so I think Ill go with a M40A-1 HTG from McMillain. My first of probably many questions is if ordered from MCM what should I have done to it like bedding and pillering or will a stock from them basically be ready to drop in the action and shoot? I intend to get a Lija barrel in .22 but later want to get 17HMR and probably .22mag so if I do can I easily swap out the barrels? Also I dont see that Rimfire tech is selling much for Sako's anymore so where else can I get the bottom metal for it? Ok that enough to start so any answers would be helpful.
Thanks,

Semper Fi, John;

Welcome aboard the Good Ship Snipers' Hide.

My approach to rimfire trainers is different, but your wishes make sense to you, if not to me, and I'm respecting them.

My suggestion builds on your views, but also (perhaps) reins them in for reality's sake.

I like rimfire trainers; but if they have a drawback, it's that they are probably not as suitable for barrel switching as their centerfire counterparts, particularly the Savage centerfires. I'd suggest you pick a chambering, preferably .22LR, and stick with it.

While I'm not really well versed on upscale .22's, and I don't know your budget; I do kinda drool some over this one; especially since you're favoring an M40 look/shoot-alike.

Shoot me if I'm off-base, but that's my view.

Greg

Hey Greg Semper Fi Brother
I would like to keep the whole rig under 2 grand sans optics
I figure the base rifle will cost me 800 bucks
Lija barrel is around 400
McM stock 500
bottom metal and bolt handle 2-3 hundred
now that basically 2G and I should have enough extra for a little wiggle room after that
The skunkworks rifle is sick but just a little more than I can spend
