Hello from Illinois hoping soon to be Tennessee

Hello,
Been lurking and learning a while now but decided I had better sign up.
Also a member of 24 hour campfire and wow your forum is way more user friendly!
We're currently in Normal, Illinois.
Looking to make our way to Chattanooga area soon, had a job offer the same week we found out we were going to have a baby so that paused things a bit.

My wife thinks I'm crazy because I'm really into milsurps with the intent on harvesting a deer by every ww2 superpower's rifle.
That and the fact I just bought a 7mm rem mag bergara to work on "long range" shots to eventually go after an elk.
I should add that anything past 150 yards is a long shot in Illinois because they don't allow rifle hunting.

Every single person in IL who cares should join the ISRA.
I truly feel sorry for everyone who lives south of 80. They should make Shitcogo land its own state.

Welcome from the burbs of Chiraq. Be glad you're down state. Honestly the government here is terrible but if you don't live directly in Chicago or Springfield, the people aren't that bad.
But this isn't a great state for shooting long range. There's no real options unless you have private land.

That's great! My wife and I have been coming and visiting yearly for about 5 years now. Showed the place to a couple friends last year and boom 2 weeks later she had an interview and was able to move in a month!

What burb? We as most do have family all over the burbs, Bloomingdale and palatine area and my with my gym we travel to the area often for seminars(before Chicago locked down)
I was told by my FFL that a little north of Peoria IL has a long range capable range. Called the Elmore range, shots out to 1600.
I plan on checking that out once I find an optic for my rifle!

Sure thing! There is a 1000 yard range not far from Chatt that we shoot at also if that interests you that has several events a month.

I'm actually in Palatine.
I've heard of the Elmore range but have never been there so can't comment on it. There's a couple places in WI or Indiana that go to 1000 give or take but most tend to be private clubs. I hate that because they're far enough away that I'd only shoot there a few times a year which makes getting a membership a waste given the cost.

Yea, the downtown is already pretty blue. but get out into Ooltewah, Signal/Lookout Mtn, Soddy Daisy, etc... and you'll find some reds with alot of guns. Awesome little city.

@unsociablesam My wife and I made the move out of the Peoria area almost 3 years ago. I kick myself for not doing it sooner! We landed in Mississippi and it is AWESOME! I'm just glad to be done with everything except family in IL. Best of luck on the relocation. It is scary, but 100% worth it!

We were so close to leaving last year but with our first on the way figured being closer to family would be smarter. Now I'm hoping we don't get stuck here "to be closer to cousins"

My family still lives in northern IL and the wife’s parents live in sw FL but we live in CO. the temptation to move close to family is pretty strong but we know we’d be unhappy in either place.

Figure out where you’ll be happy and how you get there then stick to your plan. If your family is strong enough, they’ll understand.

My wife and I are going to start exploring how to get the fuck out of CO this summer. We’re looking at the black hills region of SD or the mountains of TN.
