Howdy,
Just thought I'd throw an introduction thread in here so those that care to know, do.
Name's Mike and I'm a student here at the University of Idaho! Graduate spring 2011 and am friends with a member or two on here. If they want to chime in they can! Been going through some of the FAQ's and using the search function a bit. I'm not stranger to internet forums, I'm on two hunting forums, and 2 auto-enthuist forums.
Got into hunting when I was 11-12 and since I was the first in my family to hunt, had to learn everything I did from hunting forums and friends that hunted, and a lot of worn boot leather. Always wanted to get into long range shooting, and this fall was lucky enough to make a friend that is heavily into the sport and is a member here as well.
I have two 30-06's. One is a Rem 700 topped with the standard flat base and Weaver GrandSlam 3.5-10 scope that I would like to build into a long range hunting/steel plinking gun. I don't plan on taking shots on game very far, but if the opportunity arises, then I like a gun that I can be confident in at the distance.
Looking to build a gun/caliber that I can haul into the backcountry (I've done a few high country muley trips that were 10+ miles in the backcountry), put an elk/deer down at ranges up to 750 yards (who really gets shots at ranges past that without hiking AWAY from the animal? lol), *reasonably* priced reloading prices, and won't tear off my shoulder (my 30-06 right now is a good recoil, though I have a decent recoil pad, no muzzle break, and the gun is fairly lightweight with factory ammo). Looking forward to more posts and learning the science/methodogy behind this sport!
Mike
